John Benett's Miyata 1000LT Touring Bike

The trusty cult classic Miyata 1000 with signature kooky flavor from John Benett. These bikes from the 80’s and early 90’s were sought after for their plethora of braze-ons and splined triple-butted tubing. Captured here after a tour from Missoula, MT to San Francisco, CA.

It features our Pico Panniers, Stem Caddy, Oval Dry Bag, and Logo Voilé Straps. I also made a custom frame bag for it with a quilted herringbone stitch pattern and a cow print pocket for flare. FYI, I rarely make custom bags anymore, but get me all nostalgic over a few drinks and I might just cave!

If you know John, you know he always runs Time Atac pedals and Flite saddles. If you look carefully, you’ll also notice this bike is seemingly cobbled together in a dimly lit garage but actually very intentionally built by a mad-scientist. The Pico Pannier mounting plates are custom drilled and spaced to work with mid and lower fork mounts. The basket is hose clamped on with the cables running THROUGH it. You will realize that every part has it’s place. Click through the gallery to discover all the oddities!
